Small Wooden Box exists because creating is how I heal, how I connect, and how I share what I see in the world. be(cause) exists because some things are bigger than any one person, and giving is part of the work too.
This one’s personal…
My father. My grandmother.
My grandfather. Friends.
Cancer has touched my family and my community in ways I can't fully put into words, and for a long time, I didn't know what to do with that except feel it.
Small Wooden Box gave me a way to do something with it. Not just feel it, but to act on it. When I designed the Surf City hoodie, I knew immediately that it needed to carry something beyond the image. It needed to carry the people I've lost, and the people still fighting.
15% of every Surf City hoodie goes to the American Cancer Society.

Not as a marketing move. Because people matter. Because there are a lot of people who don't have enough advocates. And because this is how I've been moved to help, through the work, through the things I make, through the community that's gathering around this brand.
The image on the Surf City hoodie is one I created especially for this occasion. It is the first design I have used that didn't come from a photo I took. I wanted to highlight the event (Surf City Marathon) , the place (Huntington Beach, CA) and myself in the middle of it all. I didn't feel there was a photo I could take that would reflect my vision. While my photos will always be the primary designs for SWB products, I want to be open to going where my imagination takes me.
